Phil referenced the Treforest 10k at announcements last night but was unsure of the results - they can be viewed here

The dramatic highlight - a distressed horse and rider amok amongst the front runners (..ended safely)

The running highlight - Mike Murphy 1st V60, conquering all on a playful course (undulating for the 1st 5k) :@)

I added these results to our database shortly after the race. However the distance is recorded as unknown as the course wasn't certified or measured.

Thanks Amanda - bit confused needless to say, but c'est la via in my increasing dotage

The event was promoted by WAA (and is on their web site). The results are also displayed and ranked on Power of 10 (British Athletics, WAA and Run Britain accredited web site). As a punter, not sure what more one can do to assume authenticity (the GPSs amongst us also suggested an accurately measured course). Are all the race results we choose to display with distance vetted in this way? (suspect some aren't..) / how can runners know if a race they are entering is/isn't cosha? / why WAA etc promoting if not certified?

Hypothetical questions all maybe so best ignore. And for the record a great little race. Very well supported and marshalled by Ponty Roadents. Big turnout form other clubs. Recommended in-spite of the bumpy bits and equine challenges. Well run everyone who did this

Hi Tim, the Treforest event has no measurement certificate, and as I issue them for Wales I am 100% confident about that. I measured the race for them a couple of weeks before the first staging of the event, they then changed the course with out it being measured, I found out via the Club forum. I tried contacting them the following year to find out their intentions and they failed to reply, they also failed to reply to Jacqui Brace (Welsh Athletics), I notice that they changed the course again this year - again without it being measured.

I will contact Power of 10 and Run Britain and remind them of the situation. I will also contact Jacqui Brace as it should not have a licence without a measurement certificate (Po10 and RB are quite strict on it).

Being on the Welsh Athletics website you would think that an event is official, but that is not the case, Newport Half Marathon (ignoring the short course) has never been licensed, yet WA displayed it.

I try to let Amanda and Ed know of any event that I have a query on, and Jacqui normally checks with me before issuing a certificate.

Thanks Phil for such a detailed explanation - and apologies (my demented ramblings - again) as you do so much for us, and I'd hate to create even more work.

But more to the point - you're right... It's in everyone's interest to have races certified and measured - ensuring the distance correct I guess just one of many factors, others of which far more important
