Also on Walesonline

Although 'Pensioner Jeffrey Aston' sounds a bit strange to those (like me) agog - and in awe - of such a remarkable, tenacious and inspirational athlete

Best of luck to Jeff and everyone running tomorrow - be it London, Llanelli, Offas, Rotterdam, elsewhere?

Going to be a v.special day..

I am deeply impressed and awed - and am glad to be treated so well in a club - with such "real" runners. Fantastic!

Jeff's was quite a remarkable performance in more ways than one.
Obviously, to complete any marathon on 34 successive occasions is amazing.
I challenged Jeff to achieve a podium place among the Everpresents (as he was 4th last year) and he achieved this with 3rd out of 14, with the two faster athletes being considerably younger.
His time of 4:08:07 was more than half an hour quicker than last year, meaning that if he maintains this rate of progress he will win the 2018 race at the age of 70!
Well run Jeff!
