Both Llanelli and Newport are hilly/undulating courses. What kind of HM are you looking for James? The Welsh and West of England races are undulating - if you want flat and fast I'd say it's best to go further afield. Wokingham is good, with small undulations. Lydd in Kent is a hot potential as it's genuinely flat (though with a out-back tangent on mile 6).

Wokingham is on 9th Feb, which I think is the day after the 4th Gwent League.

Thanks Amanda and Mick. Have just entered Wokingham. That should add a bit of focus to winter training. :-)

The White Horse in Oxfordshire is supposed to be good. It's a flat, fast course. Bit of a drive though. Think it's in April.

Llanelli is good, wouldn't say it's hilly, not last year anyway. Just the one hill at the halfway point that's steep but short. Good course for decent times, as long as the wind stays away! Tewkesbury is also a good one.

On the subject of the Newport half, the link below will take you to what I and others thought of it last year.
http://www.lescroupiersr...rg.uk/forum/post/2081140

I looked at their website last week and they're still talking about changing the course a bit but haven't posted the details of it yet.

I have ran Tewkesbury in 1.21.46 and that was with a fast start, so I can assure you its a fast course.

I ran Llanelli in 1.19.45 but the weather was perfect. I ran it once when the weather was awful and made it in under 1.25 but the conditions cost me bags of time.It is a pretty flat and fast course with the odd short incline.

I would say Tewkesbury or Wokingham, although I remember Phil saying there is a nasty hill at the end of Wokingham.

Tewkesbury would probably be your best bet I would have thought.I couldn't discount Wokingham though as it comes highly recommended by several members, and I haven't actually ran it.

Hope this is of some help.

There is no nasty hill in Wokingham HM. Google search for these race elevations. That's the best way to get an accurate guide.

No nasty hill at Wokingham, although the humps over the motorway feel like that towards the end of the race. Ironically (I can't run at the moment) I got a complimentary place for Wokingham 2014 in the post this week. Think my other half will probably do it. Fast course, low key. Good choice.
