I was out near Roath Rec on Saturday when I saw a runner collapse on the other side of the road. It looked pretty serious. I called an ambulance while two other passersby tried to get him breathing again. When the ambulance came the paramedics asked us for his name but he had no ID him. It struck me that I too don't take identification out with me when I go for a run. If I collapsed while out my wife would have no way of knowing what had happened. Some of you may know that Steve Cram's brother collapsed while running in Cardiff but his family were only notified after they filed a missing person's report three days later. I'll be taking I'd with me now on every run - please think about doing the same.

Yeah that's a good call, I don't take nothing and this has hit home

be good if someone could make a wrist band (like the help for hero's etc) where it's made of rubber but has your name and emergancy number on it!

Will look into it !

Steve Cram has the Cram Alert bracelets - presumably inspired by his own experience - http://www.cramalert.co.uk/

You can buy wrist and ankle bands from RoadID. www.roadid.com

The new parkrun barcode (in 'credit card' or keyring tag format) can include an emergency contact number, year of birth, other information e.g. NKA = no known allergies.

Good post Chris, i have recently been thinking about what i should do as i often go out running very early on my own & do have a habit of falling over, though fortunately have never injured myself beyond cuts and bruises. This has been more pertinent in my mind as no one knows where i have gone and it could be some days before i was reported missing. I will be purchasing one of the wrist band options this week.

I shall be investigating the cheapskate option of using a Sharpie to write my ICE details on a wristband I already have at home.

What price peace of mind, eh? :-)

After reading about a guy who collapsed nr Cardiff barrage and was several days in UHW before being identified, I went out and bought two sets of icetags (icetags.co.uk) and have them threaded onto my laces and neatly tucked in to the ? tongue of my current pairs of trainers. This method, rather than a wristband, means I can't leave home without it. Hopefully I will never need it.
