A reminder that the club Short Course Championship contains a track 3000m.

This Wednesday is an opportunity for you to compete on the track for the club or as a guest at this distance.
In fact you will also have the opportunity to challenge our evergreen Mel James over the 400m/200m distances whilst Mal Farnham will also be setting a high standard and gaining points for our club in the shot/javelin and whatever he has time for. Eirian, as usual, will be involved in almost everything.

The relay is the final event of the evening and the Port Talbot team is in possession of The Gnome (Norman). Can we regain possession of it?

Come along to this competitive but welcoming environment. You'll be surprised what you can achieve.

Norman will be there. He is a little worse for wear after the castles weekend, but as Tim O'Sullivan suggested we took him to the National Elf Service and he is back in one piece.

Also if anyone wants a lift I am leaving Cardiff at 5pm with Tracy so room for a few more.

Mike, can I ask, is registration AT 6pm or FROM 6pm? I had planned to run, but realistically won't make it to Brecon til 6:45 at the earliest.

Traffic tends to be problematic heading North on the A470 near Nantgarw, Pontypridd, Abercynon and Merthyr. Allow for delays.

Good running conditions at Brecon last night.

Good news - Norman returns to Cardiff despite sustaining life threatening injuries during his journey from Caernarfon to Cardiff at WCR 2016.

Small turnout by most clubs.

Field (Throwing events - most popular)

LC Members:

Eirian - did almost everything (Injured), Tracey - 15000m, 3000m and relay, Karen Chadwell - 3000m and relay, Mal Farnham - javelin, Mel James - 200m, Mike Davies - 400m, 3000m and relay, Clive Osmond - 3000m, Evatt Cummings - 3000m

Results will follow.

Post race debrief.... McDonalds (Merthyr).

Last night I learned the true meaning of 'a good sport', team effort and having FUN. Our 4x100m team consisted of myself (never run 100m in my life), Tracey, Claire B and Mike, in that order. Let's just say that Claire exercised wonderful patience and Mike was able to bask in the glory of having the track all to himself for his leg. The other competitors may well have been making themselves a cuppa by that point. All about new experiences and enjoying the sunshine and midges in Brecon - you don't get that at XC!

All messing aside about pole vaulting by Tracy, it would be AMAZING if we could get more of the club to come and do this event. IT IS THE MOST LOW KEY EVENT YOU WILL EVER DO. If you are looking for a new challenge then this is just what you need. ALL abilities are welcome, no one will judge you and the cheers you get from your club mates will spur you along, I guarantee it.
Next one is only down the road in Newport so no excuses.

There's no 3000m on the programme for the track meeting in August. Mike thinks that's correct, does anyone know if that is really the case?

The next one is 6th July and there is a 3000m at that one but according to the timetable there is not one at the last one in August.
Unfortunately I have realised I won't be at the next fixture so good luck anyone that goes.

That's debateable! I think people are scared of the track just like like they were scared of swimming at the Empire Pool. Neither are that scarey but you're nose and head didn't half hurt after diving to the bottom of the deep end of the Empire!

Claire, Claire, Claire..... how could I...? Someone, who has provided a home, sustenance, comfort and emergency health care to our slumbering giant .... Norman that is. Congratulations Claire on your first place in the 3000m. I also forgot to mention a potential new member who attended Brecon - Giorgiana.

Results from the evening are now on the Welsh Masters' website (under events).

WMAA Results Brecon June 2016

Realistically, we're a club that has a strong tradition of road running/cross country but it has diversified to include off road, fell running, track and field, orienteering, duathlon ..... and I'm sure Claire will confirm, many more activities. Mel James is a regular in the Welsh sprint team along with other track and field athletes - Evatt, Eirian, Claire ..... Mal Farnham (javelin). In fact, you only have to speak to our more experienced club members to confirm that track and field used to be a significant part of the summer programme of events.

We all have different strengths and weaknesses and some members may not be aware of their full range of talents. Why not give it a try at Newport on the 6th July (another opportunity to run 3000m on the track)?

WMAA T&F Fixtures 2016

The Welsh Masters' Championship will be held at Brecon on the 3rd July, 2016.
Events:

100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m,
5000m, 3000m, Run 3000m, Walk, Sprint Hurdles, Long Hurdles,
Triple Jump, Long Jump, Pole Vault, High Jump,
Shot, Discus, Hammer, Javelin, Weight, Pentathlon

WMAA Welsh Championships 2016 Entry Form and Events

This also comes with a health warning - just like any new activity, it can be a source of injury to the unwary. However, come along and give it a try. In order to gain points for the club teams you must be a member of the Welsh Masters. Non - members can compete as guests.
