Details here: http://www.lescroupiersrunningclub.org.uk/kymin-winter-race/

Nobody got my original posting of the following for the Les Croups Pre Xmas Social:

Quote:
Click me & if you have a music player & sound on your computer, the player should launch & you should hear the intro to another cult TV program from the early 1960's. It was originally broadcast in black & white, & this music was from the original run in 1961.

What was the name of the TV series?

Who wrote the music?

So here are a couple more musical clues to click on:

A pre Kymin adrenalin stimulator: New series in colour from later in the 1960's.

A 2014 adrenalin stimulator: New series from the 1970's.

For extra brownie points, who were the main characters?

The competition is open to any who have not won before. Whoever answers the questions first can claim a free drink from me at the bar on Sunday, or a Thursday night! BigGrin

Hi Howard,

No one seems to be up for your competition. Let's hope there is more interest in the race itself. I am looking forward to renewing our rivalry in 2014 and perhaps sneaking a couple of wins against you this year.

I am not old enough to remember the original 1961 series but recall being enthralled by the later episodes of The Avengers and The New Avengers. The main characters being Steed of course and the high kicking Emma Peel.

Happy New Year.

Many thanks to Rod Perons for putting this on - and to everyone who helped out today

I will add my thanks to Rod and the team, another race that all others should aspire to. Low key, friendly, mud, hills, hot showers and chips. Well done to Huw for v40 and Mike for v60 wins. 25 of the 116 were Croups, but not quite enough to win the mob match.

A few words from Rod and Angela Jones about The Kymin Winter Race. We are very pleased with the level of support for our race from Croups members both runners and those helping with registration and results on the day. It was the ninth annual running of the race and it has attracted an entry of over 100 for the last three years. We have also managed to support charitable causes each year and this year £116 went to Macmillan Cancer Support. One of our major objectives is to keep a low entry fee whilst offering a race which is both friendly and a tough challenge. From your £4 entry fee £1 went to Macmillan, £1.50 paid for the food with the balance covering St Johns, prizes and we returned a small surplus to the club. We are hoping to give a momento to all next years runners and marshalls to mark the race's 10th anniversary .Good ideas welcome, not another t-shirt though and it can't cost too much. Well done to all the Croups runners, you won't do a tougher 4 miles !

Hi Clive!

Looks like your New Year' resolution has worked! I was well & truly stuffed by the mud. Just wait 'till I get back on the dry!

Yes, you are quite right about 'The Avengers'. The original series was in b&w with music by John Dankworth, a jazz composer who liked complex chord structures.

The main characters were: John Steed, Dr. David Keel, Cathy Gale, Emma Peel, Tara King, & Purdey.

Here's the best fan club website: http://theavengers.tv/forever/welcome.htm

ps Being a fan of the Avengers has nothing to do with Honour Blackman & Diana Rigg in black leather.... I absolutely deny that completely.... honest! Blink
