***NOT AN OFFICIAL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. JUST FOR FUN.***

CHALLENGE TIME!!

Since we can't run together, how about we have a Physical Distancing short course Race Series.

Week 1: Sat 4th Apr to Fri Apr 10th: 1 Mile

Week 2: Sat 11th Apr - Fri 17th Apr: 2 Mile

Week 3: Sat 18th Apr - Fri 24th Apr: 3 mile

Week 4: Sat 25th Apr - Fri May 1st: 4 mile

Starting tomorrow, post your best 1 mile Strava / Garmin time here. At the end of the week I will produce a leaderboard. You can set the time any point until 8pm on the Friday and can have as many goes at it as you like!

The winner (mens and womens) will be the lowest cumulative time of all race distances.

The only rule is it has to be either FLAT or UPHILL! No downhill courses!

Have at them Les Croupiers!

Tell me more about the mechanics of this challenge Marcus.
You've brightened up my day with your post (and Challenge). I'm sure that Mike Murphy, Michael Cranwell, Mel James, Geoff Wright, John Plain, Sandy J...... will want to take part
I was getting rather bored of my four mile run up to Pentyrch and back.
Just checked a run on the patio .... it's flat but only 10m long.
I have a Strava time of 14:38 - 160 x 10 metre shuttle runs.
Come on Julie Scholey, I know you can beat that....

Mechanics are pretty straightforward.
1 (or 2,3 or 4) miles run in teh appropriate week. It can be any mile in any run. For example, if mile 3 on a 6 mile run was your fastest of the week, that would be submitted.

If you don't use GPS but are happy you have run a mile then I would trust you are being honest as it's just for fun! The only rule is it must be flat or uphill so no running 1 mile from the top of Caerphilly Mountain downwards!

For the 2, 3 and 4 mile weeks the miles must be consecutive miles but can still be in the middle of a longer run. Pop them here or on Facebook by 8pm on the Friday and I will keep a running leaderboard published after all submissions made.

I think this is a great idea and I'm all for it.
The only thing I'd suggest is keep it low key and restrict any posts to this thread. I don't think it's quite what the government has in mind by 'one form of exercise a day' and if it got out widely on social media it could generate a negative response. There was some talk today of banning outdoor exercise if people started gathering in parks etc.
To be clear, I don't think there's any danger of spreading coronavirus by what you're suggesting but it might put people's backs up. (Might just be me being paranoid on the other hand.)BigGrin

Here's mine, using my Tom Tom and then looking at the splits.

7:17, going round King George V Avenue.

This was great fun, OK it wasn't like being at a race but gave me a much needed boost. Thanks for thinking of it Marcus BigGrin

Thanks Al - leader in the clubhouse.

Were Marcus and his daughter using you as a pacer?

Only two and a half days left and Julie Scholey hasn't posted yet.

Maybe there will be a rush at 19:59 on Friday.

Oh yeah..... 7:47 on my (Tuesday)speed session yesterday.

Great idea Marcus!

I updated the software on my watch this week so it reset all my records and gave me a fastest mile record during my tempo run today - 6:58. I think Karen was going to post this on Facebook for me as well. BigGrin

I may go out tomorrow and have a proper push to see what I can do over a couple of mile splits to see if I can better that.

My final effort - 6:31 done today on Longwood Drive. It's so much harder when it's not a race. Crying

(I'll ask Karen to post this with evidence on the Facebook page later).

Hi Marcus, I decided to respond to the challenge on a 9M tempo run at midday on Friday when it was pretty warm!
I managed 6:31 pace for mile 8 running up Lk Rd West in middle of road! My mile 6 split was 6:52.
Thanks for setting up the challenge- it made a change from just doing steady running.
Remember to stay safe everyone!

I've got a lot to do to catch you both. Didn't realise that so many were involved. Glad to see the full club involvement.
I suppose I need to tune in to another channel to get a real picture....
Dave McDonald ... you're my target for the two miles.
First attempt last night .... nothing better to do ....
Two miles 16:29.
