Got out earlier (8:30) for a number of reasons, asking myself what I was doing before I started however the reports from Brecon left me with no real excuses. Shorter than planned, another awful PW, wind across barrage made a mockery of times anyway. In addition to which we were interrupted by a guy who seemed to be on a rampage with a blood covered baseball bat which we saw him hiding and reported to police!

Forget the watch Gerry.
Hope the other incident doesn't end in tomorrow's headlines.

Another mini Sunday am training run report - more of the surreal than real runner variety though..

Quote:
Sorry Gerry, unable to make it...going off road. I need to toughen up (saideth Michael H Davies..)

And so Mike, who clearly just can't get enough of the weather (but nothing compared to what he/the rest of you braved at Brecon) took Graeme and I on something of a retro run this morning - the TT, Garth Woods, Pentyrch Hill and back off-road route. Use to be a regular Sunday a.m. feature for a gang of LCRC and SanDomites misfits (Gerry will remember the incident with the bullocks!). Enjoyed it - especially the arrival of the hale, the perfect excuse to head for home and share the soggy jellybabies...

~11m according to MapmyRun, which can't be right (felt like at least 20)

Cheers Mike/Grae - same again next week anyone? But I'll wear trail shoes or Inov8s next time RollEyes

Thanks, Ang. I'm very discerning about who I say that to. Anyone who is in the least scathing or cannot understand the mentality of wanting to go beyond 26.2 miles can't call themselves a real runner.
Sadly, there are a lot of them about, but that's their problem.
Who wants to be considered ordinary anyway (notice I didn't say normal!)

" .... or cannot understand the mentality of wanting to go beyond 26.2 miles can't call themselves a real runner"

That's nonsense of course, but a good starting point for an argument BigGrin

Most sprinters or middle-distance runners wouldn't even consider running more than a few miles - yet I'd really consider athletes like Linford Christie, Dwayne Chambers, James Dasaolu to be real runners.

Many years ago, under the influence of Howard Brown, who was running 30 plus miles on a Sunday, and drinking 3 - 4 pints on the run, I tried it. I caught the bus to Ystrad Mynach, and ran back along country lanes, going up Machen mountain, Bedwas mountain, Caerphilly mountain and Rudry mountain, stopping in the old Rudry hotel bar for 2 pints of Guiness, then back to the stadium (Maindy). It was character building! I never raced further than a marathon, but I can see the appeal.

Thank you Toom (Phil Hexter). You were always a real runner, especially at the Finchley 20 in 1983.

Thanks to everyone who showed up. A really enjoyable run, helped immeasurably by some truly stunning weather. A timely reminder that the Barry 40 is just around the corner (three weeks to be exact - Sunday 9 March). Bring your deck chair and sun block.

Unable to run due to injury. so when I got up and saw the sun I was more than gutted.
When I came out of my house making a trip to Tredz a whole gaggle of runners from Les Croups ran past at the same time, it was like a knife in the back. Hope you enjoyed your run and I wished I could have joined you, mind you Brian looked as if he was working hard.

Sorry about that, Roy. Blame Dave Coles - he picked the route.
He ran 22 yesterday and 16 today - worth coming to support him on the 40 given his current form.
Hope to see you back on the roads soon.
