Should we al be the running the same distance or at least have a choice

This is something I have been thinking about for a while. I have been running for a long time and it stricks me as strange that all other events including off-road event we all run the distance regardless of age or sex. As an endurance and trail runner, I fail to understand why I can't at least have the choice of what cross country distance to run. Another thing I find difficult to understand is that vets men can have the choice regardless of how fast they run while some vet men refuse point blank to run with the women even when they allowed to run with us ladies. A lot of the youngest are also questioning this. They run the same distance on the track but not at cross country???? A change in the ruling could encourage more people to do cross country as some of the men have said if they could the same distance as the women either as one race or just be allowed the choice they would do cross country. I have discovered that the Gwent League recently had a survey regarding the issue of different distances the survey is now closed but the result will be known at the 2020 AGM. I don't understand why weren't all made aware of this survey and given the opportunity to share our views?
