Hi Everyone - Porthkerry 5 is now open. Message below from Jim from Penarth & Dinas Runners

Firstly, I’d like to thank members of Les Croups who have in previous years supported our multi terrain event , The Porthkerry 5 (formerly known as ‘The Plod’), now in it’s 9th year.
The Porthkerry 5 is a 5 mile traffic free race, held almost entirely within the Porthkerry Country Park near Barry, with stunning views across the Bristol Channel and Glamorganshire Heritage Coast . Despite its former name suggesting otherwise, the 'Plod' is in fact a very challenging event for all levels of runners.
The date of the 2014 Porthkerry Plod is May 11th . Entry Form attached. Entry will also be available on-line at
http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/
I would be grateful if you could include the race on your club competition list and circulate details of the race amongst your members.
Prices for the 2014 event are being held again at the amazing low level of £7 for affiliated runners (£9 non affiliated, £10 on the day for all), one of the best value events around.

Donations from the event will be made to Penarth & Dinas Runners nominated charities for 2014, Marie Curie and Juvenile Diabetes Research. Last year we were able to donate £500 to each of our 2 charities, and we hope to better that this year.
Please visit our website at http://www.penarthanddinasrunners.org.ukfor/ further details of this, and our other event The Cosmeston Relays, a tag style team relay held annually in July.

To help us at Penarth & Dinas deliver a better event year on year, we welcome feedback on how we could improve this race to make it more attractive to your club and club members.

Great race and pretty challenging too. Picked up a couple of trophies from this when it was the Plod.

This race will be the opening event of the newly formed South Wales Running League. We need to make sure we have more than 10 Men and 6 Ladies out for this and the other fixtures.

The entry form has been posted on P&D's website. Good race this one. Phil won it last year.

This could be an issue with some races if they keep selling out early, the club who gets entries in first could win by default as others won't be able to enter 10 runners!!

Chaps,
I posted an entry to this race a few weeks ago but I am yet to hear anything about the entry being accepted. I presume this is completely normal and as long as I turn up on the day I will be registered.

Do organisers usually put up a list of confirmed entrants well before the race to ensure that I wont turn up and be turned away if there are no further places or should i continue to try and contact the organises to confirm my entry has been received?

Given how much work I presume goes into organising an event I would rather not hassle them if I dont need to!

Marcus.

I don't remember having confirmation of entry in the past. Numbers are collected on the day.

Hi Marcus

Like Amanda, I don't recall receiving a confirmation when the race numbers are collected on the day. I'd say that the best ways of confirming are to check whether the money has gone from your account, or a quick e-mail to the organisers.
